Blog post 5 - 6th grade

I was inspired being a 6th grader. For about 4 and a 1/2 years, I have been in Melawati. When I came here, my goals were to get A- to A+ grades. So I was hoping to get good grades then getting B+ and below. I have achieved it by doing my homeworks on time, and studying for tests. Overall, my goals came out better than I thought. Also, I got along with a lot of different people and talk to them which was what I wanted. It was fun meeting new people and collaborating with other people.

The new skills I have learned was studying on my own and studying for tests. At first I didn't do things on my own but got help from my family. This skill was important because doing things on our own makes us do challenging work and solve them out. In High School, everyone does their work on their own rather than getting help from their family. That is what I have wished a long time ago. I've finally learned it.

The skills I like to learn is to achieve good grades in literatures. I don't really read books and I don't really read challenging books. All I love to read is adventures and fantasy but I can't really afford to read realistic books. Like books which tells about a poor person or a rich person, I can't afford reading that. It feels really boring than exciting. I think that is one skill I have to work on because later we have to read varieties of books.

My next goals for 6 months are to read books and stop making careless mistakes in test. As I said, I would like to read varieties of books. Another goal is to stop making careless mistakes in tests because every math test or any test, I keep on making mistakes on the easy questions which lower my grades. I think I should really get focused on my tests. That is my goal for the next 6 months. I think this is one way to get good grades. I hope after the holidays, I still do a good job.

Literature circle 4

1. I liked the book very much because it was really a very well described book. It had every detail for its part. The story is actually a short one but since it had lot of details, it was fun. I liked the story how a normal city boy got lost in the woods and tried to survive with one tool. I like stories when people go in an adventure and get lost and try to survive.

2. My favorite part was when Brian found the survival pack and found food, equipments, and a transmitter which saved him. That part felt relaxing to me because it felt like as if a big problem has been solved. It was like the resolution of the story since Brian had finally found things that can help him in the forest to live on. Also, I liked the part when Brian got to eat the food from the survival pack since it was really enjoying to see Brian finally eat some good food for a long time.

3. I think the message of the story was to be positive and never lose hope because if Brian hadn't thought of Perpich's words, he might have died. At the end of the book, the pilot who came said to Brian that people quitted looking for him 2 months ago. That was a long time. If he had lost his hope to live, he might have never been found. So, I think this is what the book is telling us.

4. I liked the literature assignment because it made you read the book clearly and understand it. If we had read it once and never think about it, we will forget what that book was about. The literature circles had made us read clearly than before and talk about the story to not forget it. I would improve it by not making the discussion too long because sometimes if you take too long, people will start to get bored and not present it properly. I think we should spend some minutes for each one and at the end, we do the blog post assignment.

5. It's hard to say because between the novels, we have to pick something that attracts your mind. I think I would rather read something that is kind of calm like maybe the True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. That book attracts me because the title looks interesting and it is one of the books I haven't read yet. (Hatchet was the one I read before) This is what I want to read next. I'll look forward to it!
